`BEWARE OF COMMUNISTS’
-Church warns faithful against ‘infiltration’
**Concerned over an “infiltration” of Communists and rationalists in various Church forums, the SyroMalabar Catholic Church has, through a communication, informed its faithful to identify those having such a background among various Church forums.
The laymen should bewatchful against the phenomenon. Under no circumstance should they enter into key positions, including trusteeship, the Church has ruled.
** The Church had various affiliate organisations in its fold for its laymen, including the Yuva Deepthi for the youth, Pithruvedi for the elderly, and Mathru Jyothis for elderly women.
“There will be elections to various panels of these organisations at the parishand other levels. There has been tough competition to capture positions, which is one way to lead the laymen,” it said in a recent communication from the Changanassery arch diocese.
** A fear is that rationalists would infiltrate the Church panels and leak details of the Church activities to outsiders.“Gradually, they wouldexert their influence on Church forums,” a priest in the Changanassery arch diocese told Deccan Chronicle.
Father Paul Thelakkat, spokesperson of the Church, said the Church was on the look-out to identify such elements. This had happened in the past too, he said.“Such ambitions are there for political partiesand some are successful at that. We have learned that some political parties have given instructions to their people (Christians, of course) to infiltrate church bodies and get their party respectability among the Christians. The Marxist party (CPM) got respectability in some places in such a way,“ Father Thelakkat told Deccan Chronicle. The laymen should be watchful against the phenomenon. Under no circumstance should they enter into key positions, including trusteeship, the Church has ruled.
