In view of the seasonal trend of vector borne and water borne diseases in the state during the monsoons especially Malaria, Dengue & Diarrhoea and in continuation to the success of the previous year’s campaign, a state wide awareness campaign will be launched by Sj. Naveen Patnaik, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha on 1st August, 2013 at Jayadev Bhawan, Bhubaneswar, Minister Health & Family Welfare Dr. Damodar Rout said today at a press conference.
This multi-partner communication campaign “Nidhi Mausa Dakuchi Asa- Malaria, Dengue & Diarrhea Kariba Nasa” will start from 1 st August and will continue till 15th August 2013 across the State, involving different departments such as Rural Development, Women and Child Development, Forest & Environment, School and Mass Education, SC & ST Development, Panchayati Raj, Tourism & Culture, Fisheries, Municipal Corporations and development partners including UNICEF, BBC Media Action, TMST-DFID, Civil Society Organizations, NGOs community, media and other stakeholders.
In continuation from last year, Nidhi Mausa brand will continue as the icon to promote key messages related to prevention & control of Malaria, Dengue & Diarrhoea.
The fortnightly campaign will create an awareness on environmental sanitation among target groups on prevention and control of malaria, dengue and diarrhea in our state contributing to reduction of mortality and morbidity, Prevention and control the three diseases in convergence with different departments stressing on source reduction and promoting key behaviours and create community ownership by involving communities at each level starting from villages in districts involving all stakeholders including school children & PRI members.
The activities of the campaign will include Orientation to all PRI members, ASHA, AWW, ANM, GKS members and all Health & all other directorates at district, block & village level, Launching of the campaign simultaneously at State & District (at District Head quarter Hospital) level on 1st August, 2013, Nidhi Rath, an IEC van will mobilize people and spread awareness through audio -visual messages related to prevention of Malaria, Dengue & Diarrhoea, Development of ASHA IPC folder for MDD campaign, Dissemination of Posters and leaflets on these diseases in Odia, Desia, Kui & Saura language, Inter-sectoral convergence guideline for departments has been developed and disseminated.
Minister Health & Family Welfare Dr. Rout has requested all GKS members & all the members of Panchayat Samiti through appeal letters to get involved in the programme. Sensitization of all school children & teachers will be done through a special comic book named “Masanka Bhaga Dauda” on malaria awareness during the campaign. Installation of hoarding on Malaria, Dengue & Diarrhoea at DHH & Block CHCs, Airing of spots and jingles through DD & AIR through Swasthya Kantha campaign & through other programmes, Folk performance in every village during the campaign in partnership with ZKSS & BKSS, regular updation of Swasthya Kantha with behaviour change messages in more than 45,000 villages, the fortnight-long campaign will end with a two day massive cleanness drive on 13th & 14th of August for elimination of mosquito breeding sites in the villages by GKS involving SHG members, GKS members, PRJ members, ASHA, HW (M/F), AWW, local NGOs and other line department representatives will be done.
154 Mobile Health Units will also carry campaign messages to the interior areas while conducting health camps in 7 high focused districts of Koraput, Sonepur, Malkanagiri, Raygada, Keonjhar, Kalahandi & Kandhamal.
Involvement of NGOs at urban slums and in 182 most vulnerable and difficult sub centers for social mobilization during the campaign, engaging media for greater social mobilization through orientation workshops will be other highlights, Minister Dr. Rout expressed.
