Mayor reaffirms his commitment to make Bhubaneswar a Child friendly city

Children from City slum visits BMC
Bhubaneswar: This further to the innovative interaction programme to have a regular dialogue between the city mayor and the children living in slums, Humara Bachpan Campaign today facilitated 30 children from different slums for an exposure visit to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation office.
Jasmin, a 7th class student staying in the Science park slum told media persons that living conditions in her slum are poorest for children. Unsafe electrification had caused damaged recently in a meeting where the Mayor himself had addressed. The open drains have been fatal new born small children crawling in their early childhood. Congested housing has been affecting in the education and social skill development of more than hundred children staying in her slum.
Likewise Munna, a little kid from Mahishikhal slum stated the problem they are facing due to a open well inside the community toilet. Jagannath, a 8 year old kid from salia sahi talks about the issue of open defecation. It was more serious when he stated about no toilet facility for children however elders use it.
This exposure visit of children was a follow up action to the “Meet the Mayor “ programme that the campaign organised recently where more than hundred children interacted and shared the problems they are facing in their neighbour with the city Mayor Mr. Ananta Narayan Jena. Mr. Jena then had assured them of a safe and healthy neighbourhood and requested the children to pay a visit to the BMC office. Children gifted a photo ollage of Mayor Shri Jena on this occasion being appreciated by all present at BMC.
After listening to children’s issues and views on the current progress of slum development and reaffirmed the commitment for a safe neighbourhood with child friendly living conditions. More than five corporators and social activists working on the slum development accompanied the children and stressed on fulfilling the demand of children on priority basis.
