Information on Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “HUDHUD”:Cyclone Warning-TWELVE(RED MESSAGE) for South Odisha Coast
According to latest observations, According to latest observations, the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘HUDHUD’ over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved slightly north-northwestards with a speed of about 6 kmph during the last 06 hours and lay centered at 2330 hrs IST of 11th October 2014 near latitude 16.4ºN and longitude 84.7ºE, about 210 km southeast of Visakhapatnam and 320 km south of Gopalpur. The system would move northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh coast close to Visakhapatnam around noon of today, the 12th October 2014.
Forecast : Rain/Thundershower would occur at most places over Odisha during next 48 hours.
Heavy R/F Warning : Heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over districts of Malkangiri, Koraput Rayagada, Nawarangpur, Ganjam Gajapati Kalahandi and Phulbani of South Odisha during next 48 hours and heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in districts of Khurda Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Balasore Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj during next 24 hours.
Advice for hoisting Storm Warning Signals: Local Cautionary Signal Number Three (LC-III) kept hoisted at all ports in Odisha.
Likely impacts and actions: Squally wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph would prevail along& off South Odisha coasts during next 06 hrs. The wind speed would gradually increase to 80-90 kmph along and off south Odisha (Ganjam, Gajapati,Rayagada,Koraput and Malkangiri districts). Sea condition would be rough to very rough during next 06 hours and it would gradually become very rough to high along and off South Odisha Coasts.
A) Action Suggested: South Odisha coasts- (Ganjam, Gajapati,Rayagada,Koraput and Malkangiri districts) Damage to thatched huts. Breaking of tree branches causing minor damage to power and communication lines. Uprooting of small trees. Damage to agricultural crops.
Fishermen Warning :- Total suspension of fishing operations along and off Odisha Coast.Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea.
Post Landfall Outlook:- Even after landfall the system would maintain the intensity of very severe cyclonic storm for 6 hours and gradually weaken into a cyclonic storm in subsequent 6 hours while moving northwestwards across south interior Odisha and Chattisgarh. Under its influence rainfall at most places with heavy falls at a few places would occur over south Chattisgarh, adjoining Telangana and south Odisha and isolated heavy to very heavy falls over north Chattisgarh and north Odisha. Gale wind speed reaching 100-120 kmph gusting to 130 kmph would also prevail for 6 hours after landfall and 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph for subsequent 6 hours over Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput and Malkangiri districts of Odisha during the same period. Squally winds speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph would also prevail for next 12 hours after landfall over south Chattisgarh and adjoining districts of north Telangana and south Odisha.
