Information on Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “HUDHUD”:Cyclone Warning-Eight (ORANGE MESSAGE) for South Odisha Coast
According to latest observations, the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘HUDHUD’ over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards during past six hours and lay centered at 1130 hrs IST of 11th October 2014 near latitude 16.1ºN and longitude 85.1ºE, about 350 km south-southeast of Gopalpur. The system would move northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh coast around Visakhapatnam by the forenoon of 12th October 2014.
Forecast : Rain/Thundershower would occur at most places over Odisha during next 48 hours.
Heavy R/F Warning : Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over districts of Malkangiri, Koraput,Rayagada,Nawarangpur,Ganjam,Gajpati,Kalahandi and Phulbani of South Odisha in next 48 hours. Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in districts of Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Maurbhanj in next 24 hours.
Advice for hoisting Storm Warning Signals: Local Cautionary Signal Number Three (LC-III) kept hoisted at all ports in Odisha.
Likely impacts and actions: Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph from Northeast direction would prevail along and off Odisha coasts and the wind speed would increase to 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 KMPH along and off Odisha coast from today night . Sea condition would be rough to very rough in next 12 hours and thereafter it would be very rough to high along and off Odisha Coast.
Action Suggested: South Odisha coasts- (Ganjam, Gajapati,Rayagada,Koraput and Malkangiri districts) Damage to thatched huts. Breaking of tree branches causing minor damage to power and communication lines. Uprooting of small trees. Damage to agricultural crops. People in affected areas to remain at safe places.
Fishermen Warning :- Total suspension of fishing operations along and off Odisha Coast.Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea.
Post Landfall Outlook:- Even after landfall the system would maintain the intensity of very severe cyclonic storm for 6 hours and gradually weaken into a cyclonic storm in subsequent 6 hours while moving northwestwards across south interior Odisha and Chattisgarh. Under its influence rainfall at most places with heavy falls at a few places would occur over south Odisha and isolated heavy to very heavy falls over north Odisha. Gale wind speed reaching 100-120 kmph gusting to 130 kmph would also prevail for 6 hours after landfall and 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph for subsequent 6 hours over Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada,Koraput and Malkangiri districts of Odisha. Squally winds speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph would also prevail for next 12 hours after landfall over rest districts of south Odisha.
